Time for Spring Cleaning!

It’s that time again!

Weathers warming up, flowers are starting to bloom, and things are beginning to feel lighter! According to Ayurveda and other traditions of healing, this is considered one of the best times to detoxify and cleanse. Why? During Winter we hibernate and accumulate, and due to the nature of Spring and its lighter and warmer qualities, detoxification is natural process. Sometimes though our body needs extra help to facilitate a proper cleansing. Otherwise we may continue to feel heavy and lethargic (mentally and physically)through the transition of the seasons.

Cleaning and detoxifying whether its your home, or your body is also a great practice in letting go and clearing out that which no longer serves you. It’s also a great way to reconnect with your Self. We become so contracted, conditioned, and bombarded by all the external stressors in our lives, that we start to believe that that is who we are. True, When we are not taking necessary steps in bettering our health and well being, we become walking projections replaying old stories and hurts onto one another. We become depressed and life seems like no fun!

Cleansing helps us to peel the layers of samskaras ( impressions embedded into the subconscious mind) so that we can re member who we really are: That which is Divine!

Couple things I take the time to do every day, that give me more freedom in body and mind:

*Yoga A power~full and easily accessible practice in which mind*breath*body*spirit are mindfully integrated. Where would I be without Yoga!

*Meditation Quiet and stillness brings more peace and calm to my being and creates space for light and inspiration to come through.

*Relflection Taking the time to pause and reflect upon my self and actions helps me to “see” beyond the veils of illusion.

*Ayurvedic “Kitcheree” Cleanse ( Seasonal) so that I can re-collect and re-set any old or un~useful patterns that might have re-emerged.

As usual, lots of fun workshops and things going on this month. Don’t forget to check out my Ayurvedic Detox Workshop coming up soon!!!!

Blessings and Happy Spring Everybody!

Ayurveda and Yoga: Complementary Treatments for Cancer

This is a really great article that I wanted to share with everyone about the benefits of Ayurveda and Yoga in relation to the treatment of Cancer. Please share with anyone you know that might be going through this, and would like more information on how traditional healing therapies can compliment western medical treatments and dis-ease.

Ayurveda is a traditional Eastern approach to balanced and healthy living. At its core, it is a system that emphasizes acceptance of human needs and the pursuit of vitality.
Ayurveda does accentuate preventative measures, but the system can also benefit patients who already have a developed illness, such as cancer. A traditional Ayurvedic treatment model incorporates internal medicine and surgery along with medicine, emotional care, yoga and meditation. This parallels most Western cancer treatment models, any many patients can easily adopt it as a comprehensive treatment plan.
Ayurveda for Cancer Patients

With clearance from their oncologist, cancer patients can partake in most components of an Ayurvedic system, including:
• Meditation
• Relaxation techniques and breathing exercises
• Specialized diets (with an emphasis on cleansing, plant-based foods)
• Therapeutic massage

These modalities all have the potential to help cancer patients reduce or manage their symptoms. Meditation excels at controlling anxiety, while therapeutic massage is especially helpful for decreasing pain. Practitioners may use any combination of these approaches depending on their illness, lifestyle and emotional state.
Herbal supplements and other natural medicines play a large role in Ayurvedic treatment as well. Some of the natural medicines, including garlic and turmeric, have been shown to have anti-cancer activity in laboratory studies. However, some supplements can have negative interactions in cancer patients, so practitioners are encouraged to clear all use of Ayurvedic supplements with their oncologist before consumption.
Yoga for Cancer Patients.

Along with tenets such as hygiene and exercise, yoga is an integral part of Ayurvedic medicine. Both practices emphasize similar principles of focused energy and mind-body healing, so it’s natural that the two go hand in hand.

Cancer patients often report feeling more centered and relaxed after adopting a regular yoga practice. Additionally, specific poses can help minimize their symptoms. For example, triangle pose can encourage healthy digestion, while simple inversions like downward dog can help fight fatigue.
Practitioners should focus on gentle yoga classes or classes designed specifically for cancer patients. These classes take patients’ physical limitations into consideration and often revolve around relaxing or restorative postures.

Tips on Ways you can Enjoy your Self this Valentine’s Day

It’s easy to get down on yourself if you’re single on Valentine’s day, or hate it because its another consumer holiday. It’s happening whether we like it or not. We may as well use it to our advantage, as a reminder of the love that fills our beauty~full being, and all the beauty that surrounds us day to day. Well this may sound easier said than done. I hear that too!

So I’ve listed a couple ways to help remind us of that inner GOODNESS, and ways that we can nourish the seeds of love and joy within ourselves. Whether you have a partner or not, no one can “make” you happy or fill a missing “void”. Unlike the fairy tales that we grew up with, many of those messages and maybe even some of our own up bringing may not have contributed to a healthy perspective on love and relationships. No worries, always space and time to learn and re learn new things!

The “lesson” here: The more we In~Joy ourselves, the easier it is to In~Joy others, and one another.
Here are some simple and easy ways to enjoy YOU, today! And every other day!

* Make yourself laugh and watch a funny movie! Some ideas: Blades of Glory, Pooty Tang, Jamie Fox stand up comedy always gets me going!

* Sing your heart out, even if you think you can’t sing. And have fun with all the neat things your voice can do…its a natural wonder you, know?!

* Take a warm bath and fill it with essential oils, and Relax. Ahhhh

* Treat yourself to a massage, you deserve it for no reason except that you are an amazing being!

* Take yourself out to lunch at your favorite restaurant. Or take some time to cook yourself a nourishing meal. (Yummy restaurants I enjoy: Au Luc in Fountain valley, Star of Siam in Long Beach…

* Buy yourself pretty flowers and place them somewhere you can see them. Let them be a reminder of how beautiful you are!

* Take a walk or hike somewhere out in nature. Gets the prana flowing!

* Korean Sauna and a good scrub down will make you feel soooooo good! I promise.

* Eat something really yummy that makes you go, mmmmmmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

* Flirt with someone you think is really cute. It’s fun innocent, and playful! PLAY!

* Take a couple deep ~Breathes~ and remember that each breath is a wonder~full gift from the divine. The universe believes you are worth it to be here, enough so that you can take that next breath.

Enjoy my little Cupids!!! And remember to love yourself today and every day!!!

With Peace and Love
