How to Strengthen your Digestive POWER
I used to take loads of supplements thinking that it was healthy for me. At the time, I was having major digestive issues after living 5 years with chronic parasites and a slew of other issues, and didn’t realize I was doing more harm than good. How do you know you’re having trouble with digestion? Gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, burping, acid reflux? These are all signs that digestion is impaired and the likelihood that you are assimilating all the vital nutrients from your food is pretty low. According to Ayurveda, when food goes undigested, it turns into an excess waste product that results in toxicity in the body.
Analogy of your agni and poor digestion I learned in Ayurved school:
Imagine your agni ( digestive power/metabolism) like a flame. If your agni is low, imagine that flame is also very low. Now imagine dumping wet logs ( representing food) onto that flame. What happens? Well a small burning flames ability to burn down that wood is very low, resulting in leftover, wet wood. The leftover stuff is represented as toxins or waste by product.

There are 7 levels of tissues that are nourished by what you eat. It starts in the gut, and the quality of what your body is receiving is “fed” by the tissues before that. It’s important to first work towards building agni and improving your bodies ability to break down food properly. There are many ways to do that. Here are a couple tips:
1) Follow a proper food combining list: It takes enzymes ( and lots of it) to break down your food. Certain foods take longer or shorter time to digest and digest easier with certain foods like veggies and carbs. Or meat with carbs. Or fruit alone for example. The more variety there is mixed together, your body has to produce more enzymes, and the harder it is on digestion.
2) Drink a digestive tea before your meals: Try ginger on Fennel, Cumin, Coriander Tea before your meals to rev up your agni and help with digestion.
3) Mono Diet: Try a kitcheree cleanse or eat simply ( one food choice at a time). It will give your digestion a rest and time to detox and do what its go to do so that digestion can function at its optimal.
4) Eat Slowly: Breathe and give thanks for your meal. Savor it like it were your last, and as they say, chew your food till its liquid and eat your liquids:)
5) Eat Relaxed: Eating emotionally. stressed, or in a rush puts digestion on the back burner. Make sure you are in a comfortable environment and in a relaxed state of mind.
